1. Overview
The Parameters view is where you adjust the assumptions used within a scenario. These parameters determine how calculations are carried out for funding and staffing.
Parameters can be adjusted separately for each scenario.
2. Purpose
The purpose of this view is to modify assumptions, such as price developments and rates, and calculate the impact of those changes within a scenario.
3. Key elements
View
You can switch between two views:
- Per fact – displays a table with facts in the rows
- Per scenario – displays a table with scenarios in the rows
Shows table with facts as rows.
Shows table with scenario's as rows.
Columns
The table displays the following columns per year or month:
- Budget (baseline)
- Change
- Inflation %
- Scenario (calculated)
Shows table with these four columns per year or per month.
4. Adjusting parameters
Adjusting via Change
- Find the relevant parameter in the table.
- Enter a new value in the Change column. This will overwrite the existing value.
Shows an amount entered in the Change column.
Adjusting via Inflation
- Enter a percentage in the Inflation column.
- This is automatically carried forward to subsequent years using compound growth.
Shows a percentage entered in the Inflation % column.
Working by month (salary costs)
Salary costs are worked with on a monthly basis. Use the month filter to narrow the view down to the period you need.
Shows the month filter and monthly columns for salary costs.
5. Working with inflation and change
There are two ways to adjust a parameter:
- Change – a direct change to the value
- Inflation – an automatic recalculation based on a percentage
Inflation works cumulatively, much like compound interest. A price increase of 5% in year 1 is applied again in year 2, but this time on top of the already increased amount from year 1.
6. Reviewing and recalculating
Checking the Scenario column
- The Scenario column shows the calculated value that will be applied within the scenario. Use this column to verify that the outcome looks correct.
Saving
- Save your changes to apply them to the scenario. Without saving, any adjustments you have made will not be processed.
7. Requirements
- Authorisation for parameters is required in order to make changes.
8. Errors
Parameter cannot be edited
→ You do not have authorisation to change this parameter. Please contact your administrator.
Unexpected result in the Scenario column
→ Check that the values in the Inflation and Amendment columns have been filled in correctly. Using both at the same time may lead to an unexpected outcome.
9. FAQ
Can I adjust parameters across multiple scenarios at the same time?
No, parameters are adjusted within one scenario at a time. However, using the by scenario view lets you see the values for multiple scenarios side by side.
10. Glossary
Parameter: a variable used as a starting point for calculations
within funding and staffing.
Amendment: a direct change to a parameter value.
Inflation: a percentage-based growth.
